FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Everything operators ask us about Alpa: what it does, what it connects to, what it costs, and how your data is protected.

Getting started

What is Alpa?
Alpa is a financial platform for restaurants, built by Alpacap Ltd. It connects to your till and bank, then does the work: a live weekly P&L, your cash position, every delivery fee and supplier invoice accounted for, a monthly Alpa Score, and a plain-English Monday briefing.
Who is Alpa for?
Restaurant operators: independents, multi-site groups and franchises in the UK and France. It's built for the person running the restaurant, not the accountant - no finance background required.
How long does it take to set up Alpa?
Under 10 minutes. Connect your till and your bank, and Alpa starts building your P&L from real data. No spreadsheets to fill in.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Free for the first 30 days, no credit card required. Cancel any time.
Do I need an accountant to use Alpa?
No. Alpa is built for the operator. If you have an accountant, you can invite them as a collaborator at no extra cost.

Product & features

How does Alpa build my P&L?
From your real data: sales from your till, transactions from your bank via read-only open banking, and your supplier invoices. Every line ties back to something you can verify, updated every week.
What is the Alpa Score?
A single financial score for your restaurant, updated monthly and built from your POS sales and bank data. It covers five pillars - revenue, margin, cash, profit and discipline - and shows you which lever to pull to move it.
Can I ask Alpa questions about my restaurant?
Yes. The Alpa assistant answers questions in plain English - "How long will my cash last?", "What am I spending with each supplier?" - always from your real numbers, and it shows you where each answer comes from.
How is Alpa different from Xero?
Xero is for your accountant: it tells them what happened last month, in the format HMRC expects. Alpa is for you, the operator: your weekly P&L and your score every Monday morning, in the format you can act on. They're complementary; most of our customers run Alpa alongside their accounting software.

Integrations

Which POS systems does Alpa support?
Alpa connects to Square, Lightspeed, Toast, SumUp and Zettle, pulling sales directly from your till. The full list is on the platform page.
What if my POS isn't listed?
Get in touch. We prioritise new POS integrations based on operator demand, and we'll tell you when yours is supported.
Which delivery platforms does Alpa support?

Pricing & billing

How much does Alpa cost?
£29 per location per month, everything included: the platform, your monthly Alpa Score, your weekly P&L and your Monday briefing. The first 30 days are free, no credit card required.
What if I add a location mid-month?
Pro-rated. No setup fee per location, no per-user charge.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. No notice period, no contract. If you cancel mid-month, your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period; we don't refund pro-rata. Full data export included.
Do you charge per user?
No. Add helpers, accountants, restaurant managers. Any number, no extra cost.
What about VAT?
Prices shown exclude VAT. UK customers pay 20% VAT on top.

Security & data

Why does Alpa need my bank?
It's the only source of truth for cash flow and many cost lines (staff cost, rent, fixed costs). Without it, the P&L is built from guesswork. With it, every line ties back to something you can verify.
Can someone at Alpa move money in my account?
No. Open banking gives Alpa "AISP" (Account Information Service Provider) access only, read-only by regulation.
Is Alpa regulated?
Alpacap Ltd (trading name Alpa) is an agent of Plaid Financial Ltd., an authorised payment institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Regulations 2017 (Firm Reference Number: 804718). Bank access is read-only, regulated open banking.
Where is my data hosted?
Your data is hosted in the EU, in Dublin and Frankfurt. No customer data leaves the EU.
What if I leave?
Full data export, immediate revocation, no retention beyond legal minimum. We delete bank-derived data within 30 days of cancellation; statutory accounting records held for the period required by UK / EU tax law and then removed.

Multi-site & franchises

Does Alpa work for multi-site groups and franchises?
Yes. You get one Alpa Score for the group and one per location, so the site dragging the average is the first thing you see every Monday morning. Multi-site insights are included in the per-location price.
Can my team use Alpa?
Yes. Add managers, helpers and accountants as collaborators - any number, at no extra cost.
